Community
Founded the photography network Illuminate, creating opportunities for photographers to present their work, discuss ideas and receive feedback through a series of public events. Secured funding from Hull City Arts to explore the legacy of Hull UK City of Culture 2017, commissioning three artists to develop new work in response to this theme. Organised a public presentation event in partnership with Redeye The Photography Network at Artlink Hull, followed by a panel discussion involving industry stakeholders and members of the public.
Created a community photography project centred on the welfare and rights of dogs, collaborating with over sixty dogs and their owners to produce a series of portraits celebrating the unique places and spaces of Hull. The project developed an audience of thousands through social media, resulted in a sold-out charity calendar, two gallery exhibitions, artist talks and media appearances across radio, television and print.
Led the transformation of a neglected area of land into a community garden and shared green space through funding secured from the Heritage Lottery Fund, Groundwork and City of York Council. Organised volunteers, installed vegetable beds and biodiversity initiatives, and delivered community events that brought residents together to create a valued local space.
Teaching
From 2017 to 2025, I held Programme Leadership and academic teaching positions across Teesside University, Leeds Trinity University, Coventry University and Lincoln University. Working across teaching, curriculum development and student experience, most recently I have led degree programmes, managed staff and resources, developed industry partnerships and created opportunities that connected students with employers and professional practice. I successfully increased recruitment and retention, contributed to highly rated student satisfaction outcomes, and developed innovative projects including public exhibitions, professional events and collaborative learning initiatives. I provided inclusive support for diverse student communities, championed accessibility and employability, and worked with digital learning technologies and creative software to enhance teaching, learning and engagement. Throughout this period I continued my own creative practice while contributing to research, exhibition projects and wider discussions around art, education and participation.
Additionally, I developed a series of workshops for Hull City of Culture 2017 volunteers that I delivered across autumn 2017 season. These were rated highly and I was hired to deliver more in the 2018 Legacy year. That same year I produced and delivered photography workshops for the Hull International Beermat Photography Festival with Graeme Oxby and Winners Chosen by Martin Parr.
